You've Got A Friend In Me

Friendly February has arrived! We can't help but associate this month with love, hearts, compassion, and acts of kindness. Midyear is also the perfect time to revisit the theme of friendship as we have undergone some physical, mental, and emotional changes since the start of the school year! How time flies...

We started this week off with the childhood classic "Rainbow Fish". This story proved to be constructive in facilitating meaningful discussions about what it means to be a good friend. We also didn't mind marveling at the glimmering and captivating illustrations! We learned that although it may feel nice to have, there is even greater satisfaction in sharing!

On the theme of friends (and fish), we created our own take home counting books that tell another neat story of friendship. This also supported color recognition, rhyming, counting sets, and simple addition concepts. We are so multi-talented!

Here are some other crafts that enhanced and supported this week's theme!

Speaking of friends...we'd like to introduce Sensei John! He is a karate master and the one of the funniest buddies around! When he's not cracking jokes he is teaching us how to make productive and energetic use of our bodies in a controlled and methodic way. This was therapeutic on so many levels! From running to jumping to meditating, we cannot wait to see him again next week!

Welcoming February meant introducing a famed (and quite silly) holiday involving an ambiguous furry friend. Is it a beaver? Hedgehog? Otter? Mouse? Good guesses my friends. Groundhog Day held so many learning experiences such prediction activities, weather patterns, animal facts, and carrying out hands on observations! Check our our (Ladybug) Groundhog Day events!

Wow! Six more weeks of winter it is!

Farmer Fred came to remind us how important it is to be a friend to our planet as well. We spread mulch around the Transit Garden in order to beautify and suppress weeds for the warmer months to come. It was also nice to revisit some of our sprouting daffodil bulbs. Just like a friendship, it blooms with gentle care, attentiveness, and of course lots of love!

That's all for this week. It warmed my soul to see our friends gain so much from our friendship week. Much more to come! See you on Monday my friends!
