What an exciting week full of love, friendship, and high spirits! Valentine's Day is extra sweet at this age when we can express our feelings for one another with handmade cards, heartfelt hugs, and warm compassion. These simple gestures can mean so much to us! This holiday is a wonderful reminder to take a step back and appreciate those that are in our lives. Not to mention the accompaniment of tasty treats is an added bonus :)
Valentine's Day was full of nonstop fun. We brought in personalized valentines and independently delivered each message to the corresponding mailbox (hopefully each valentine made it's way into the right hands)! Our one and only slime mixture made a special appearance in Valentine's Day form with a gorgeous pink and red hue. I guess you could call it Valenslime's Day here at Ladybug Preschool!
Your heart will melt at our other adventures from Valentine's Day!
We also engaged in one of our favorite pastimes, a Valentine's Day scavenger hunt! The clues were in rhyming format just like romantic poetry. I held off at the last word to see if our ladybugs caught on to the pattern. Red, white, purple, pink, take a look by the kitchen ___________! You guessed it, everyone could successfully complete the verses for me! Excellent work my little Shakespeares!
Hearts are something we have been talking about for a while now with our thematic unit of friendship. But to use our hearts to their full potential, we must exercise them! Check out our pictures from Sensei John's ultimate karate lesson this week, complete with an obstacle course and dance party!
Towards the end of the week we spent some time on the upcoming holiday of President's Day. Since the ladybugs are somewhat familiar with physical money and the meaning behind it, we decided to build on this concrete foundation by examining it further! We connected the images on coins to real presidents from American history. This sorting activity proved to be fun, hands on, and an opportunity to learn about something new! We even sharpened our writing skills with a familiar yet unusual implement, the feather! We wrote declarations with this "quill" just as our founding fathers did!
With President's Day upon us we engaged in some thought provoking conversation. What would be something you'd like to accomplish as President of the United States? Answers ranged from making everyone wear the color pink everyday, to always being nice to one another and giving out hugs. It's good to know that our friendship theme is making an impact and that our ladybugs have so much consideration for others!
Just because Valentine's Day is over doesn't mean the sweetness has to end. On to the next celebration! We wished our beloved Teacher Lena a very happy birthday since we will not be here next week for her real birthday. We love you Teacher Lena, even more than we love chocolate!
I'm going to miss you all so much! Have a wonderful break and we will see you back on Monday February 27th! :)
