We just finished up a very special week talking about the people who mean the most to us, our family. This unit really helped foster positive learning experiences where the children could share, discuss, and relate to one another in a more personal way. I too enjoyed hearing all about family trips, traditions, and other happenings in the home. Our ladybugs took pride in contributing to our family tree display as well as creating their own version of a family tree and family portrait. Some of the labels the children dictated to me really cracked me up! Every child had something unique about their family, whether it was the names that family members go by or the different makeup of siblings!
Our shape this week was the triangle. What better way to celebrate than to bring out our sensory table and engage in a full hands-on search! The children always love this activity and feel especially accomplished when they can add their findings to our bulletin board.
We also incorporated rice boxes to practice drawing our shape as well as spelling out our names. The sensation of the rice helps us develop and cultivate our writing skills! But to us, it just feels like play!
We concluded our week in a very new and exciting way. Farmer Fred took us on our first field trip to the local "Transit Garden!" We are so appreciative of this hidden gem. Here we were able to run around and explore with nearly every plant at our fingertips! Farmer Fred encouraged us to touch, smell, and observe our surroundings. I can't even begin to recall all the herbs, vegetables, and insects we spotted!
I'll let the pictures take over from here!
It was nothing but smiles this whole week! From family, to shapes, to gardens, to overall happiness, we are ready to end our first month of preschool! Next week we will be talking all about community, and wrapping up the month of September!
Have a great weekend!
